Getting Started | All-in-One Driver Guide

Everything you need to know before and at the start of your shift

Your device at a glance

Your Cabcharge All-in-One terminal is a PAX A920 Pro. Here's what's on the device:

  • Contactless reader — at the top of the terminal for tap payments

  • Swipe reader — for physical card swipes

  • Chip card reader — at the bottom for inserted cards

  • Touch screen display — your main interface

  • Power on/off button — on the side of the device

  • Scanner — for QR/barcode scanning

  • USB-C port — for charging

  • Volume buttons — on the side of the device

Your terminal also comes with a GPS antenna — a small device typically fitted just above the dashboard. This is required for fare accuracy and connectivity. Make sure it is connected and the antenna light is flashing before starting your shift.

Important: Always keep your terminal connected to power unless you are passing it to a passenger for payment. This prevents disconnection and ensures a seamless experience.

Powering on and off

To turn on: Press and hold the power button until the screen turns on. Allow a few seconds for the Cabcharge app to load automatically before logging in.

To turn off: Press and hold the power button, tap Power Off, then confirm by tapping it again.

To restart: Press and hold the power button, tap Restart, then confirm by tapping it again.

Understanding the home screen

When the app loads, your home screen displays:

  • Status bar — battery, signal, GPS, Bluetooth and time

  • Menu — top left, access shift info, fares, transaction history and settings

  • System alerts — top right, a red icon appears if the system detects an issue

  • Hail light toggle — manual on/off switch for your roof light when not on a trip

  • Standalone meter — displays the running fare during a trip

  • Fees & extras — shows levies, tolls and extras included in the fare

  • Tariff — displays the tariff currently applied

  • Trip actions — buttons to start, pause and end your trip

Understanding the menu

Tap the menu icon (top left) to access:

  • Pre-pay — take payment before the trip begins

  • Fares — view Meter Totals (current shift) and Lifetime Totals (all time)

  • Transaction history — view and print receipts for the current shift

  • Print — print last receipt or running totals

  • System — view system information and any issues

  • Check for updates — manually check for the latest app version

  • End shift — log out and end your shift

Status bar icons

Keep an eye on these icons in the top bar:

  • GPS icon — confirms your GPS antenna is connected and receiving signal

  • Network icon — confirms 4G connectivity

  • Bluetooth icon — confirms Bluetooth is active

  • Battery icon — monitor charge level

Important: If any icons appear in yellow or red, restart your device. Do not disable Bluetooth — the device requires it to function.

Logging in

When you're ready to start your shift:

  1. The Cabcharge app will load automatically on startup

  2. Enter your Driver ID — unique identifier assigned by your network or state authority (2–10 letters or numbers)

  3. Enter your Driver ABN — your valid 11-digit ABN

  4. Enter your Driver Authority — your state-issued driver identifier, required to accept TSS/MPTP subsidy payments

  5. Tap Submit

Once logged in, your home screen will display your Taxi ID, status and a meter ready to start.

Before starting your trip: Check the top right of the screen for the red System Alert icon. If it appears, try to resolve the alert before beginning — see the System Alerts section in our End of Shift & Troubleshooting | All-in-One Driver Guide.
